OFFICINA TOM is a workshop of visual arts created in 2010 thanks to an idea of Pietro Mancini and Gilda Cristina Artese. The project has been launched within the Italian Social cooperative called Primo Sole Percorsi, and performed by people with mental health problems who make use of the Community Mental Health Centres based in Pomezia, Anzio, Velletri, Laurentina and others to come (the first three cities are in the Province of Rome, Laurentina is a very long street inside Rome).
OFFICINA TOM is an open space: an experience that brings together art and psychic distress. The aim of the workshop is to include the works by these artists, who constitute the workshop itself, in the network of contemporary art by taking part in exhibitions and events professionally acknowledged in the field of art.
OFFICINA TOM project has been presented at the Accademia Albertina (Accademy of Fine Arts in Turin) (invitation by Martina Corgnati) and at the Accademy of Fine Arts in Bologna (invitation by Piero Deggiovanni and Maurizio Giuffredi).
Some important projects by OFFICINA TOM are:
