This is a sui generis issue, full of solid colours, madness, fun, humour and many truths.
Or Not 7 — arranged by and dedicated to Enrico Pantani – was presented last 12th December at the lovely literary circle & café “Bistrò del Tempo Ritrovato” in Milan.
A unique opportunity to literally touch the new magazine published by arsprima and know more about Enrico Pantani. Here are some pictures of the evening and some very interesting exchanges between Cristina Gilda Artese – art director and President of arsprima – and our Or Not 7’s protagonist.
Is there any difference between neurosis and madness?
Perhaps there is following distinction: madness is more likely to be rooted in the small towns whereas neurosis in the metropolis. Neurosis affects country folks as well, but people there are more often close to each other and ready to lend a hand.
Why do people like your work?
They like it because it is authentic. Because what I draw is not influenced by my association with people from the world of art, for example. I have a special notebook where I mark down my studies on people, facts, events, situations that I see. In other words, I tell about our daily life and the characters that inhabit it.
Why do you insert texts in your works?
I have always used notebooks on which I draw and write. In the past I wanted to write short stories and novels, I needed to narrate. But literature makes use of more dilated times which I don’t like. I’d rather prefer to narrate through my drawings so that I can balance graphic art and words. Moreover I really appreciate the works of those artists who write small texts on their works.
You study society and give your characters special features through colour, a basic element for you. Why are colours so important to you?
When you live in the province and you finish your felt-tip pen you cannot buy another one immediately. And as you do not have loads of opportunity to go and buy paint markers once you are at the shop you wonder “which one shall I buy?”. That’s it. It’s extremely important you make a good choice. On top of that for me colour must always be solid, never pale.
For Or Not 7 you made an animation video. You are a very eclectic artist. Where do you feel more comfortable?
I like making artist’s books, I have a lot of fun when doing them.
